Undertaking this type of upgrade on your own can void any warranty that you have on your laptop. You will need to understand the basic workings of your laptop including which parts belong where.
Video cards for laptops are on of the most commonly upgraded components. Some laptops can be upgraded, while others can not. Some parts are permanently soldered inside of the laptop, which means that they are permanently attached and cannot be removed. Of course, you can still possibly upgrade video cards for laptops if you have some knowledge of soldering.
Most people find they want to replace their video card for a specific purpose, whether it is for better graphics in gaming, such as 3D games or watching movies.
Once you have decided on a specific video card for your laptop, you can get started with replacement. You will need to ensure that the card you have chosen is compatible with your laptop in the first place. Here are some simple steps to upgrade video cards for laptops:
- Ensure your laptop is off. Choose a screw driver that will remove the screws. Remove the hinge covers, take your time, remember laptops are much more delicate.
- Next you will have to remove the keyboard by taking out the screws which are located in the hinge cover. The next part to be removed is the display assembly which includes the screen.
- Optical drive – slide it out from the side.
- You should now be able to see the video card. Remove it and replace it with your new card.
- Follow the preceding steps in reverse order to reassemble your lap top.
You should not undertake this task on your own unless you are fairly good at assembly and disassemble. You will need to remember where all of the pieces go as you take them out so that you can easily replace them.
